Author, Fiber Artist, Mixed Media Artist, Designer, Illustrator & Art Promotion
The inspiration for my art comes from many places, but my fellow artists truly inspire me to create.
Where to start my story? As with many creative people, art and design has been a lifelong passion of mine. When you're truly in your own element, you're creating for a livelihood . I've been an artist and crafter since childhood and studied art in college. It's been a dream of mine to at some point in my life to really commit more time to my passion for art. To take the leap of faith and further my artist career. Art itself has really been at the core of my professional career from marketing and advertising for Fortune 500 companies to designing for various local businesses from New England to the deep South.
I create handcrafted original work in my studio - fabric art, paintings, mixed media pieces, illustrations and mosaics. The vivid colors I use are very contemporary and reflect a love of life. Mother Nature has been my everlasting passion. My love of nature and flowers are the main inspiration for many of my pieces. Having been a designer with flowers for many years the vivid colors of nature and flowers inspire me. My fascination with unusual forms of living things transports me to a different world, one of imagination. Which make me feel and appreciate the natural wonders around us. I am driven to find the essential abstract in each form. From each piece being a unique form unlike anything else. Such as, a one of a kind flower; transforming, deconstructing and creating new forms in my work.
Through art my art, my aim is I draw on my many life experiences. In my art, I am interested in portraying the mystery, the joy, the wonder, and the spiritual process of life. On how we interact with ourselves, each other, the earth, and the greater universe.
Fabric Artist For 2018 - I'm again experimenting with fabric in traditional New England ways. Passing my love on to others too. I'm designing patterns for fiber design this year as well.
My grandmother taught me to work with fabric in various ways to sew, cross-stitch, hook and crochet as a child feel many of these talents will be lost if we don't share them with others who are interested in learning. She was an expert in so many different types of fabric art who passed down this passion. I'd like to build on those fabric stills she taught us and develop new techniques and combine them.
For generations, my family had worked with materials. Fiber has been both a passion and a career for us. From my great-grandfather to my own generation we have all had an interest in working with fabric. My grandmother was an expert quilter and crocheter who made parachutes during World War II for the troops. The memories of her collecting clothing, then taking a skirt or jacket apart, washing the pieces and hanging each piece of the garment to dry to make quilts from still is with me.
She was from a long history of industrious fiber-workers. French Canadian women and men in who had passed these skills on to her. I would say, the best lesson she gave us was to have patience to give yourself. Take the time needed to learn new techniques. This was one of the best lessons she gave us and not fearing learning new skills by building on the ones we have already learned.

More to come on what I'm planning and working on in 2018.
Illustrations and Paintings
- My illustrations and paintings are contemporary and a modern form of art. Ambiguous, flowing with a brilliant use of color while embracing distortion and fun. This dislocation of the usual forms will have you encountering the usual in a new way. This correlates with modern art with my illustrations, mix media and paintings. Modern art is bright, challenges your senses, challenges your thoughts and makes us question what art truly is.
-My children's book illustrations are playful and whimsical in form and design. Fun and expressive with imaginary characters come to life! - My work be it a painting or illustration is unique and vibrant reflection of life. -For 2018 I'm experimenting with fabric in new ways.
-My mosaics are an exploration of color, texture, rhythm, pattern and scale. While embracing the properties of light and dimension. Just as a painter creates an image with a canvas and a brushstroke, I create the mosaic surface with tiles, glass, shells and glass beads united to create one cohesive piece with an expression of an image or design. The process is the similar to a glass-maker with the modeling colors on a MOVABLE working canvas.
The qualities of a mosaics are special in that there is an interaction of mixed media of tiles, glass, shells, beads and mortar is it comes together to create a greater composition. Mosaics are more than art. Mosaics are used as functional pieces—mirrors, tables, and decorative, yet very functional accessories. My material list includes - opaque glass, iridescent, glass, mirrors, mirrored metallic, tiles and shells. I select the glass sheets for its color, texture, opaque qualities and patterns I visualize the desired end result of the piece. I use traditional Mosaic nippers and glass-cutting tools to hand cut each tile. I cut, I also edit for color and design of each piece. The Pieces are each hand molded to the perfect form, creating tiles that vary in size, shape, color and surface. The surfaces vary in finishes from matte to shiny. The use of color I use is diverse. Some are solid, shaded, and/or streaky; textures that are smooth or irregular. I then carefully place the tiles, trimming and fitting as I go, to create a complex composition marked by luminous color, shape, pattern, and texture. Many of my representational mosaics are suggested by nature, flowers, Trees, animals, birds, foliage, etc. I am particularly interested in finding ways to express abstract images in unique ways and expressing my own abilities in the medium.
My professional Art experience started in college and has been a lifetime of designing in various mediums. My inspiration comes from various sources for my art, mostly inspired by nature.

"My work is simply form and medium, but have the ability to sweetly touch the soul. Dynamic, fascinating, mesmerizing and soothing all at once." ~ Sharon Nicholas
