Hello! My name is Sharon Nicholas. As far as I can remember, I have been crafting, creating and doing art in one form or another since my elementary school days. Born and raised in New England and the mother of two grown sons, I am an in-house designer for a local studio and have my own home studio as well. I consider myself to be an “eclectic artist”, dabbling in many different fields and mediums - event design, wedding design, large floral installs, party décor, paper crafting, mixed-media, painting and stamping. Floral arranging has been my passion for many decades, and I'll try everything in between. I have been featured in various magazines over the years and art shows. Though my passion is art, I also love giving away some of what I make.
My free time is spent reading, cooking and traveling. I am a freelance writer, best-selling author. I design, create, & attempt to keep active as an artist on a regular basis. Growing up in a creative family had a huge influence on me and much of my creativity has been passed down from generations. My inspiration comes from a long list of favorite things.... far too many favorite things! I seem to find inspiration from many places - nature, animals, a bit of fabric, paper or an antique piece or unique pattern.
Over the years, I have taken numerous classes on art and design. Learned various techniques and historical traditions and have been taught much by my creative friends. Each piece is handcrafted entirely by me in my home studio using the finest quality tools and supplies. Here you will find me...surrounded by basic material to create from, sketchpads and art supplies scattered about my craft table.
Most of my creations tell a story (at least in my mind they do) and I often write short stories to accompany my creations as to where the inspiration came from.
I'm an American creative soul. Raised in a New England city with traditional New England values. Having grown up in lively city nestled among rolling hills with many cultural activities related to art, I grew to love art as a child. Living in college town environment known for it's cultural institutions, including art museums, many musical organizations and a thriving art scene. A city with where many well known writers have been raised also helped foster her love of art and writing. I completed her undergraduate education in my hometown and continue to paint, illustrate and create pieces until this day.
Artist Statement -
Mother Nature has been my everlasting inspiration to create my art. My passion to create comes from being around flowers and nature for many years as a designer. The fascinating color combinations found in nature bring us joy while it calms our souls. The natural abstract forms found in nature have inspired me to include these flowing and playful shapes in my work. Transforming, deconstructing and recombining unique shapes and colors into new work. I'm creating dance with floral images while warming the soul with vibrant colors.
In my most recent work I showcases an abstract expressionism style, which displays playful lines, bright colors and a unique style.
I transform and deconstruct elements of different flowers and living things, recombining them to create abstract images and representations of things that are imaginary creations. My aim is to transmit to the viewer to follow the colors and rhythms of the original item, but in a new unique way. While awaking their emotions in unsuspected and spontaneous ways.
